Let’s face it comic book fans… good games based on the characters we love are a bit hard to come by. Most efforts seem to center around movies, and it seems as though the time and effort put into many AAA games just isn’t extended to the licenses and franchises we read about every Wednesday. That’s why Arkham Asylum is such a surprise. It’s good. In fact, it’s very good. With Arkham hitting stores today, we thought we’d tour through ten qualities of Arkham that best demonstrate its excellent commitment to the license and realization of DC’s world.

The stakes are high as Batman encounters a new vigilante under his wing amidst what Smith describes as a “backdrop of romance, intrigue, and geek-bait guest stars galore.” Trust us when we say that it’s as awesome as it sounds.

By all accounts, Batman: Arkham Asylum is one of the greatest superhero games ever created. The game translates everything that makes the Caped Crusader great into interactive form. And part of that is translating the unique costumes of Batman, Joker, and the other residents of Arkham.
In some cases the comic book visuals have made the transition largely unchanged, while in others the Arkham Asylum versions are nearly unrecognizable. In this feature, we examine how the characters’ looks have changed over the years and how the game compares. And because Arkham Asylum shares both a lead writer and many voice actors with the ever-popular Batman: The Animated Series, we’re throwing that show into the ring as well.
